Full-frame 16–35 mm F4 powered zoom

At only 12.5 oz (353 g), this is the world's lightest1 full-frame F4 wide-angle power-zoom lens, yet it gives still shooters and movie content creators extraordinarily refined imagery, expression, and control. It features beautiful G LensTM rendering, amazing AF performance, and a new power-zoom system using four XD Linear Motors in a compact lens.

High resolution in a compact lens

Two AA (advanced aspherical) elements, a standard aspherical element, and one ED aspherical element suppress distortion and aberration for excellent optical performance throughout the image area. Corner-to-corner image clarity and sharpness are outstanding.

Accurate color and high contrast

An advanced optical design that includes one Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element, and one ED glass element subdues chromatic aberration for crisp contrast throughout every image with minimal color bleeding. Rendering is clear and natural with any subject and lighting.

Refined G Lens bokeh

A 7-blade circular aperture and carefully designed spherical aberration work together to deliver smooth, deep full-frame bokeh that can add impressive atmosphere and visual impact.

Excellent close-up performance

The use of AA (advanced aspherical) elements in an advanced optical design results in excellent close-up performance throughout the lens's zoom range. A minimum focusing distance of 0.79 ft (0.24 m) with 0.23x maximum magnification and constant length make this lens an excellent choice for table-top photography.

Stable movies with minimal breathing

State-of-the-art lens technology reduces focus breathing and jarring angle-of-view shifts when focusing and zooming to facilitate high-quality movie recording and smooth, refined expression. The breathing compensation function provided in compatible α series bodies is also supported2.

Consistent balance for easy handling

Thanks to refined internal focus and zoom mechanisms, the lens's length remains constant while focusing and zooming for ideal balance and handling. Consistent balance makes this lens an ideal choice for gimbal-mounted movie shooting.

Fast, precise, quiet AF and tracking

Two XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors deliver high thrust for quick, quiet, low-vibration autofocus. Tenacious, reliable AF can smoothly track subjects when shooting high-frame-rate movies, and with a compatible body3, accurate focus is maintained while shooting stills continuously at up to 30 frames per second.

Smooth, responsive power zoom

A new zoom system powered by XD Linear Motors provides smooth control and immediate response. A continuously variable zoom lever makes it easy to execute smooth constant-speed zooms, and zoom can be remotely controlled while the camera is mounted on a gimbal.

Total creative control in a compact lens

Although this handy wide-angle zoom lens weighs just 12.5 oz (353 g), it does not compromise functionality or performance in any way. Creators will appreciate independent zoom, focus, and aperture rings that offer extensive artistic control, plus exceptionally smooth, versatile power zoom capability.

Versatile zoom for stills too

Precisely controllable zoom is an advantage for stills as well as movies. The zoom ring allows quick, easy framing, and with compatible camera bodies the zoom ring direction can be customized to suit personal preference and shooting conditions.

Smooth remote power zoom

In addition to the convenience of being able to use assignable buttons and controls on compatible bodies or a remote commander and accessory grips for convenient power zoom control, the Imaging Edge MobileTM application can be used to remotely control zoom while the camera is mounted on a gimbal4.

Natural, linear manual focus response

Linear Response MF ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle control when focusing manually. Focus ring rotation translates directly to a corresponding change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise when shooting stills or movies.

Aperture click and iris lock switches

An aperture ring provides direct, intuitive control. The aperture ring click stops can be turned ON to provide tactile feedback when shooting stills, or OFF for smooth, silent control when shooting movies. There is also an iris lock switch that prevents the aperture ring from being accidentally moved between the [A] and F4 to F22 settings.

Customizable focus hold button

A customizable focus hold button is provided for easy access and convenient control. An alternative function can be assigned to the focus hold button from the body menus.

Dust and moisture-resistant design

A dust- and moisture-resistant design5 provides extra reliability for outdoor use in challenging conditions.

Fluorine front-element coating

The front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants, while making it easier to wipe off any contaminants or fingerprints that do become attached to the lens surface.

Great lens for video and stills

skii: This lens is small, light and sharp. The power zoom is great for video.
