(Excluding tripod mount) The lens has been designed so that its weight is not concentrated near the front, in order to give the best balance. This can minimise stress and fatigue during long handheld shooting sessions.

Breathtaking G Master resolution

An innovative optical design that includes three Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements and one ED glass element effectively subdues axial chromatic aberration as well as lateral chromatic aberration. Outstanding resolution and contrast are maintained right out to the image edges, which also allows for more flexible cropping and editing.

Beautiful bokeh brings subjects to the fore

The gorgeous and creamy bokeh allows the use of narrow depth of field to make subjects stand out from the background. In addition to Super ED (extra-low dispersion) and ED elements in a new optical design, each lens is individually calibrated during manufacture to optimise bokeh quality. An 11-blade circular aperture mechanism contributes to smooth ball bokeh.

Flare and ghosting minimised for eye-opening clarity

Adding to the effectiveness of Sony's original Nano AR Coating II, reflections inside the lens barrel are carefully controlled to minimise flare and ghosting for crisp, clear images.

Fast, precise AF is also quiet and low in vibration

Two XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors with high thrust efficiency and an advanced control algorithm have been specially fine-tuned for use in the SEL300F28GM, achieving extremely fast response to control signals so that the large-aperture focus element group is precisely controlled with minimal time lag and vibration. The result is exceptionally responsive, precise, quiet, low-vibration AF operation.

High-speed continuous shooting with fast, precise AF/AE

AF tracking speed and precision are maintained even when shooting continuous bursts at a small F22 aperture. The user can shoot continuously while panning to follow moving subjects, or stop down to achieve greater depth of field without having to worry about minimum aperture limitations.

High AF tracking performance with 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters

Fast, precise AF performance is available even when the SEL300F28GM is used with the optional SEL14TC (1.4x) or SEL20TC (2.0x) teleconverter.

An optical design that includes Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements has reduced the subjective weight by using fewer elements positioned near the front of the lens. This optimises balance and reduces moment of inertia which is felt as resistance to rotation, allowing precise, agile lens movement and panning while shooting.

Built-in Optical SteadyShot

Built-in optical image stabilisation makes it easier to shoot sharp images handheld at telephoto focal lengths. MODE 2 offers ideal stabilisation for panned shots, while MODE 3 provides enhanced stabilisation for dynamic, unpredictable sports action. Additionally, compatible bodies provide detailed body-lens communication and control that can effectively manage the blur.

Function Ring

The SEL300F28GM includes a function ring that can directly control the power focus, APS-C/Full-frame switching, or preset focus functions of compatible bodies. Power Focus: This is the default setting. Rotating the ring initiates constant speed focusing in the specified direction. APS-C/Full-Frame: When assigned to the corresponding body menu function, rotating the ring instantly selects APS-C or Full-frame format. Preset Focus: Only available with the α9 III. Rotating the ring one way or the other selects the corresponding preset focus point. The preset focus function is not restricted by focus range limiter switch settings.

Dust and moisture resistance plus high durability

A dust and moisture resistant design provides extra reliability. The use of a durable magnesium alloy for internal components and other refinements maximises durability while reducing weight. Additionally, the front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels fingerprints, dust, and other contaminants, while making it easier to wipe off any contaminants.

Drop-in filter support and other features

The SEL300F28GM can use standard 40.5 mm diameter drop-in ND and other filters as well as Sony's own VF-DCPL1 circular polariser. As with other features, a new lens hood design uses a high-strength engineering plastic that provides an ideal blend of durability and low weight. A dedicated soft case that protects the lens against vibration is also supplied. Also, lens strap is supplied as well.
