Superb Rendering Meets Fast/Accurate Auto Focus

June 29, 2023
When I entered the Sony ecosystem a few years ago I covered the medium tele focal range with the Tamron 70-180 because of its weight and compact nature. While the image quality was good, I had a number of issues with it. The AF was not as quick to acquire a subject as I'd like. I often missed a number of shot opportunities because of that. After using it in the field for a couple of years I also noticed a dust/particle building up inside the lens. I attributed that to the extending nature of the zoom. The Sony 70-200gm ii not only addressed those for me, but established a new bar for what I can expect when using a zoom lens in my work (event/sports). I've been using this glass for about 7 months now and can tell you there is a night and day difference in af while using it on both my a9 and a7riii. Besides my 35gm, this may be the best af I've experienced in a lens/camera combo. Internal zoom as a feature should not be overlooked. This glass is sealed very well. I rarely worry about the environment I'm shooting in because of it. The biggest surprise was how light it is. While not as light as the Tamron, it is still very comfortable to work with even after hours of shooting. On top of all of that, the image rendering is the best I've ever had with a zoom. It's near prime level sharp.... Read More  Hide

So far the best lens that I've seen

October 14, 2023
My daughter started playing softball so I wanted good pictures, I was a Nikon guy, I was using a D810 with a 70-200 2.8 G zoom with TC-14 teleconverter, I got good pictures but the camera with the lens is so heavy and it looks huge and to transfer the pictures is a pain since the camera cannot connect with a phone, only with a computer with a UT-1 unit or just using the card. I saw another person using a mirrorless camera, light an compacted so I got an alpha 7R3 and I did a lot of reading and watched a lot of you tube videos and I choose the FE70-200 OSSII with a SEL 20 TC teleconverter, the camera with the lens is so much lighter, the images are better than Nikon because the lens has too many advanced features that you cannot find in Nikon lenses for now. The lens is super fast and clear, you can leave the f at 2.8 in the lens (if that's what you want) it has custom buttons that you can program (3), you have to see it to believe it! Also if you use jpeg you can transfer the pictures to your phone with there on the field! I took the picture that I posted from very far away, you cannot get on the field to take pictures....I’ve been asked to remove the picture…..... Read More  Hide

Lightweight and fast auto focus.

March 28, 2024
The quality of this lens is second to none. I challenge Nikon to improve their lens hoods to match the Sony standard. The speed of the auto focus is almost instant. I own the Sony alpha 1 and the Nikon z9 both great cameras but I am very happy with the Sony lenses.... Read More  Hide
